Nebraska Mathematics Standards

The Nebraska Mathematics Standards focus on Number, Geometry, Data, and Algebra across the grade levels. The standards are designed to develop five essential habits of mind. 

• Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
• Reason quantitatively and abstractly and consider the reasoning of others
• Create and use representations to organize, record, and communicate mathematical ideas
• Analyze mathematical relationships to connect mathematical ideas
• Explain and justify mathematical ideas using precise mathematical language in written or oral communication

Do Math – Family Math

Take a closer look at the Family Math book available from your 21st CCLC after school program library. Experience activities from the resource using everyday materials. Several models of hosting a family math event were shared. Learn how to get the entire family involved in doing math together (Materials needed: Paper clip, pencil or pen, print copy of handouts).

Nebraska Science Education Standards

Nebraska Science Standards are designed to focus on real science. The use science and engineering practices to develop core ideas for each discipline.  They then help students notice and make connections across the disciplines. 

For example, while students are learning about Earth's Systems they will be learning to ask questions and define problems. They will also. notice patterns. With this approach, science goes beyond memorizing facts.

Nebraska Social Studies Standards

The Nebraska Social Studies Standards are focused on the four disciplines of Civics, Economics, History, and Geography. 

The information related to these categories are organized by big ideas. For example, Forms and Functions of Government is a big idea under Civics. 

As students learn about these topics, the standards help them to apply important skills related to communicating, questioning, applying, and evaluating.
