Welcome to Pre-K at PEC

Our Pre-K program is a full-day, play-centered learning environment designed to prepare children for kindergarten — and for life as curious, capable learners.

We follow the Plattsmouth school calendar, with classrooms running from 8:15 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Every PEC teacher holds a Nebraska teaching license in Early Childhood Education and/or Early Childhood Special Education, and each classroom includes para-educators to maintain a low adult-to-child ratio — at least one adult for every ten children, with a maximum class size of twenty.

Our curriculum draws from proven frameworks: Creative Curriculum, Really Great Reading, Handwriting Without Tears, and Second Step Social-Emotional Learning. We're also bringing Science of Reading training to all staff. Breakfast and lunch are served family-style each day, and children enjoy hands-on food experiences monthly — all aligned with CACFP nutritional guidelines.

Support services are available for children who need them, including speech therapy, occupational and physical therapy, vision and hearing services, ELL support, school psychology, and nutrition counseling. Head Start Performance Standards guide our work, and GOLD standards and Nebraska Early Learning Guidelines shape how we assess and support each child's growth.

Every child here is known by name — and supported as an individual.
